The observation tower Torre Valentina in Sant Antoni de Calonge is a typical fortification structure in the Costa Brava — in the 15-16th centuries, the locals built similar observation towers to protect their towns from pirates. The tower has only one entry point, located 10 m above ground and accessible only by a rope ladder, which allowed for effective tower defense.
Among the towers situated right on the seashore, the Valentina tower is the only one that has survived intact. As it is a protected heritage site, it will continue to stand undisturbed in the midst of all the tourist and residential development.
