The Oil Fair (“Fira de l’Oli”) in the small town of Fontanilles is a cozy local affair showcasing the best olive oil from Empordà, complete with oil tastings and shopping. Olive oil is not the only focus of the fair, however, as “Castellum” — performances by the finest castellers of the Costa Brava — take center stage on the town square during Fira de l’Oli.
Castells, or “human towers”, are a unique Catalan tradition and a true spectator sport that displays impressive feats of athleticism, agility, and teamwork. The Olive Oil Fair in Fontanilles is the perfect opportunity to see the most accomplished castellers in action and in person.
Along with Castellum, visitors to the Fair can expect a variety of activities for kids, an artisanal market, and an attractively priced communal meal of calçotada to follow the castellers’ performance.
