In 2025, DO Empordà, the singular wine region of the Costa Brava, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its regulatory council. With harvest season upon us, you’re cordially invited to join the festivities, participate in many fun harvest activities in DO Empordà wineries, and, of course, taste some amazing wine!
A special festive weekend will kick off the month-long harvest festival and the 50th anniversary celebration in Capmany. On August 22-23, cellars and wineries across town will offer guided wine tastings of local wines made with Garnatxa (Grenache) and Carinyena (Carignan) grapes, and the town squares will be alive with street wine pours and food vendors. The weekend will conclude with a musical performance of Cece Gianotti & Après Minuit.
Harvest Festival Opening Weekend 2025 Program
Friday, August 22:
19:00 h – Tasting of Garnatxa-based sweet wines of DO Empordà (Tast de Garnatxes Dolces)
The tasting will be accompanied by local products of zero proximity (km 0) and commentary from esteemed local wineries of the region.

Saturday, August 23:
18:30 h – Pressing of grape must
The grape pressing ceremony will begin with the parade of the giants of Capmany, accompanied by the Grallers d’Espolla, and continue with the grape harvesting and pressing. Closing speeches by the president of the DO Empordà, Carme Casacuberta, and the mayor of Capmany, Joan Fuentes, will conclude the festivities.
20:00 h – Wine tastings in unique spaces in Capmany
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Regulatory Council of the DO Empordà, the doors of country houses, churches, and local architectural gems will open to visitors eager to discover Capmany’s cultural heritage with a glass of wine in hand. Five wineries will offer free tastings of their Garnatxa and Carinyena wines:
