Rice has been planted in Pals for generations. Every June, visitors and tourists are invited to attend the traditional ceremony of rice sowing led by the veteran local farmers.
The ceremony demonstrates the manual sowing technique, once commonplace among rice farmers before industrialization and automation of labour. During the event, farmers plant rice by hand, ankle-deep in standing water that is necessary for rice cultivation.
This year, Plantada Tradicional de l’Arros de Pals, Planta’t a Pals, takes place for the 28th time. The ceremony of traditional rice sowing in Pals is a family-friendly event accompanied by a series of activities, as well as a hearty country-style breakfast (5€).
